The fourth section, the Discourse,outlined the basis for a new method of investigating knowledge. One may look at the results with some misgiving, but in Descartes’s attempt we all can perhaps see ourselves, trying to answer the same questions, and willing to go to extremes also if that will help us get somewhere.
